Hi friends! I wanted to share some money saving tips geared towards the college student. My first year I was BROKE. I’ve never, ever been that broke before! Trust me college broke is a different kind of broke! So here are some tips:

Disclaimer: should you really be listening to me?? I blew $1200 in one semester, proceed with caution.

Bank Accounts

Have both a checking account and savings account and maybe even an emergency savings that you never touch! Easier said then done to never touch it, but don’t!

Tip: My checking, savings, and car fund savings account are with one bank and I have another savings account with a different bank. This is great because it takes like 24 hours to transfer between banks so I can’t do quick transfers, which discourages me from dipping into that savings account. Hope that made sense ha!

Find a bank that’s in your college town. Look this up before you get on to campus. You will definitely need to go to an ATM at some point during the year.

Going Out

I truly do not know how people go out every night or 4 days a week. HOW? WHY? And $$$. If you do or plan on indulging in adult beverages, they can get pricey especially if you’re out 4+ days a week. Also if you’re under 21, you can end up paying a cover fee at bars. I’ve paid up to $5 just to get in. There are parties and events that require ticket purchases and it adds up. So, pace yourself, unless you’re rich, then go all out.

Overpriced Textbooks

Really, really, really, ask around and research if you need a textbook. I had professors tell me I needed the book and I never used it and got an A. Often times your college class will have a FB group, and you can ask there, or in the year before if you’re a freshman. I’ve always had great luck with responses.

Tip: Amazon rental is bomb for textbooks, and you can always return it {within a certain time frame} if you don’t end up using it!

Utilize Your Meal Plan

At some point or another, you will get sick of dining hall food. My tip: treat yourself, but not everyday, maybe not even every week. I lived right behind Court St. {Athens’ main street Uptown} and it was closer then the dining halls, so I would treat myself a little too much! I somehow spent $90 in February on food alone?! Don’t ask me how.

Tip: save your food money for when its 3 am and you’re leaving the bars, parties or the library! The dining halls will be closed at this time. Also delivery is your friend!!

Cash vs. Card

Sometimes I prefer to use cash over my cards because I’m more attached to it, but my friend is the opposite. If you find that you’re more likely to spend less of your cash then try to carry more cash, and vice versa. I definitely tend to blackout and just swipe my card like there’s no tomorrow!

Get A Job

Either get a job on campus or while you’re at school {I am this year!} or take advantage of long weekends and holiday breaks to go home and work! I didn’t have a job last year and loved not having the responsibility, but really could have used the money. There are a lot of college jobs that are desk jobs, and you’re allowed to bring your laptop and schoolwork!

I’m changing this for this upcoming year and already have an interview scheduled!

Save Money!!

Work your butt off over the summer and save your money!!! Save tons of money and your grad money too if you’re a freshman!

At the end of the day if you’re broke with $2.47 in your account don’t feel too bad because chances are you are not alone haha! I saw something on Twitter that was super funny about broke kids at OU. It said something like OU students will have $2.63 in their account and buy a $2 shot with no shame. I thought this was soo funny and super true, I’ve witnessed it! Anyway please use these tips and don’t be like me! Tootles!

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share another college related post. The list will also be on Pinterest!

Looking for a dorm checklist? See this post! I have a college school supplies checklist too! I really have you covered!

Below I go more in depth on a few items on the list below!

Please note that packing lists that say a max of 15 tops or 2 pairs of jeans are SO unrealistic, and yes I’ve seen these mentioned on packing lists on Pinterest. You have to understand that you will not be at home and you’ll want to be comfortable. And there is such a thing as overpacking, believe me! I brought a bit to much with me last year so this is the list that I will use for the upcoming school year.

T-shirts | not too many, maybe 8 to 10, depending if you sleep in them, workout in them, always wear them, or don’t plan on doing laundry often. {I brought too many last year}

Blouses + Button-downs | I think it is good to have a handful {3 to 5} combo of these tops just for events, rush / sorority events, interviews, business classes, etc.

Tops | honestly, you be the judge. I recommend a combo of nice day-to-day tops, going out tops / bodysuits, and nice tees. I plan on bringing about 25 {keep in mind I do take outfit pics often though!!}

Sweaters | I plan on bringing around 4, I didn’t wear all of the one’s I brought last year. They’re great under vests in the fall! It also depends on where you go to school, you may want to adjust for a harsher winter.

Jeans | This may be tricky, because I did not wear all of the jeans I brought. To be honest I’m still not sure of all the jeans I’m bringing this year. I’d say 5 to 6 is a good number, depending on how often you wear denim. {Honestly, you’ll wear leggings, shorts and sweats more than ya think!}

Shorts | 2 to 3 pairs of denim; you won’t wear them for very long. 3 to 5 of athletic / lounge shorts. I sleep in them sometimes and workout in them too!

Leggings | 6 to 7 pairs for laundry purposes! You’ll probably wear them a lot, same with sweats if you wear those instead.

Skirts | depends on how often you wear them. I plan on bringing 4 to 6 skirts for going out and casual. You be the judge.

Dresses | 4 to 6 for casual, parties / going out, and for fancier events.

Undies | I love underwear 😂 so I would say about 20ish {25 to be safe!} pairs, especially if you do laundry every couple of weeks.

Bras + Sports Bras | 4 to 5 bras, 3 to 5 bralettes { you’ll probs wear them more haha!} 2 to 3 sports bras, depending on how often you wear them.

Pajamas | Honestly I only brought a few PJ pants. I usually sleep in bralettes or t-shirts. You be the judge

Swim | I love swimming so I brought a one piece, 2 tops and one bottom. {I would go swimming at my friend’s apartment or the aquatic center}

Socks | 15ish and don’t forget taller socks for boots and fuzzy socks for when your room is FREEZING!

Vests + Coats | I’m a vest whore and have like 5 {but I wear them all!!}, but 1 to 2 is good for the normal person. 1 to 2 coats, like a lighter Northface and then a heavier coat.

Cardigans | I love cardis but didn’t use half of the one’s I brought. Save space and bring 3

Accessories | 2 belts {brown and black}; don’t overdo it with the bags, you won’t use large bags often. I will bring my Longchamp, my tote which also doubles as a school bag and probably 3 cross-bodies. A clutch is good to have too! Jewelry is very personal! I didn’t end up wearing a lot of big statement pieces!

Shoes |  causal sneakers {2}, gym shoes {1}, sandals {2}, messy shoes {for bars or Fest Season if you’re going to OU, r.i.p. to my shoes}, rain boots or duck boots, uggs or a winter boot, flats {2}, shower shoes / flip-flops, heels / wedges {try to go for neutral ones, 2 to 3}

Now I’m lucky, my family visited pretty frequently and I would ask them to bring me stuff or take home stuff I wasn’t using. If you are close to your hometown I would ask your fam to do the same. It saved me tons of space and I got to wear more of my favorite items!

DRESS: Lulu*s out of stock, similar styles here and here| SHOES: Mix No. 6, similar | BAG: Louis Vuitton

So it is a year to the day that I graduated! It’s crazy how fast my freshman year of college flew by and that I have been out of hell, I mean high school for a year {I couldn’t be happier}.

So in honor of my 1 year post graduation I want to include some pictures of my friends and family. These are the people that really helped me get through high school.

Also in honor of the seniors from my high school graduating today, I just wanted to say congrats to them and the rest of the Class of 2017!

Old Navy linen-blend top, last year, similar here // similar jeans // Kate Spade watch // Alex and Ani // Chavez for Charity bracelet // similar ring // Lilly Pultizer tumbler

Waking up to cancelled class emails is always the best. On this day in particular, I had my sociology teacher cancel class two days in a row because she was sick. Unfortunately I was already up and ready before I checked my email. I actually put on real pants and thought this comfy outfit was deserving of some pictures. The rest of the morning I was pretty productive (until I took a nap)!

As for the outfit, this Old Navy tank is great! It is from last year so hopefully they bring it back. I worked over spring break and didn’t see any in the store, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be coming back! They’re just easy to throw on and go! I paired it with my cute Hollister jeans, white slip-ons and a jacket and was all ready for my class later that day!

Every once in awhile we’ll have some nice, sunny days (thanks global warming!!) and you just have to take advantage of them! I’m loving cold shoulder tops like this one. It’s super comfy for class or even going out! I went to a sorority event a few weeks back and wore this top with my black jeans and leopard flats and it was soo cute. It’s very versatile. I definitely want to pick some more of these shirts up. Wearing my comfy leggings and some cute shoes makes this the perfect outfit for class too!

Hope you all had a good week, happy Friday! Thanks for reading.
